Death Events from Entry
This screen appears when a non-census source is saved and any of the parents are recorded as deceased and the appropriate option to create death facts has been selected on the Options screen. This will also appear when creating a burial or cremation record to allow a corresponding death fact to be created.
For each individual the top panel on the screen shows the name of the individual and the date and/or place of death if known.
For date of death you will have the option to enter the date as being before the event date (i.e. before the baptism or marriage entry). Alternatively a different death date can be entered. If you decide to choose one of these options then it is always possible to qualify the date entered as being calculated, estimated or approximated if you wish. Alternatively you can opt to use the After or Before qualifiers.
It is unlikely that a place/address of death will be entered as this probably won't be suggested by the entry. However, this can be entered if required.
You may opt to not create a death event, or create one having selected an appropriate option for death date and place. If the individual already has a death event recorded you also have the option to replace the event with the chosen date and/or place. When creating a burial entry you will also be given the option to include the cause of death and age if those facts were included in the source document.
You may choose not to change the existing death event. However, there is a checkbox you can tick to link a citation to the source if you feel that the source provides additional evidence for the existing death entry being correct. There is an option to have this always ticked by default on the Options screen for each source type.
Although not used by the majority of genealogists, it is possible to record multiple death facts for individuals. If the multiple deaths option is selected on the Options screen, then a further choice will be presented to allow for an additional death entry to be created if an individual already has an existing death entry.
